Roberto Mancini received some job assurance with news that Manchester City will not make a move for Jose Mourinho in the summer. But the Daily Mirror reports he has also been told that City must retain their Premier League title or he will face the sack. Senior figures at the club are believed to have given Mancini a strict set of demands and, although Mourinho has been ruled out, officials have suggested they could turn their full attention to Pep Guardiola if the Italian doesn't perform this season. The paper must be confident in the story, as it published an apology to City in its edition the previous day, retracting a claim that Mancini was to meet the club’s hierarchy last month to hold talks over his future.
From one big spender to another and Zenit St Petersburg are the latest club attempting to prize Marouane Fellaini away from Everton, according to the Sun. A Zenit source has said: "The management expect to strengthen midfield. The signings will be of high quality. Belgium international Marouane Fellaini is on the list. He has clearly proved himself for Everton." Chelsea have expressed interest in Fellaini and, with Hulk likely to leave the Russian club in the summer, Zenit may just have their replacement.
The Daily Mail reports that Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is hoping to resurrect Sunderland's season by signing Manchester City striker John Guidetti on loan in January. After trying to sign the Swede in August, Sunderland are interested in wooing Guidetti into a longer term deal after the loan period.
Bacary Sagna has no plans to leave Arsenal any time soon, but his high demands could see him headed towards the exit door, the Daily Telegraph says. The Gunners have apparently offered the Frenchman an extension to his contract that would see him remain at the Emirates until the end of the 2014-15 season. That would make him 32, but he wants greater security, which may be hard to come by.
