Emeka Ike flags off desert football tournament

Nollywood star, Emeka Ike, at the weekend, flagged off a desert football tournament involving sixteen teams which were carefully selected from various parts of Lagos and its metropolis.
The football tournament is expected to last for two weeks, while the winner will work away with N500, 000.

The tournament was organised by the Unity Football Association (UFA), while Emeka Ike and his school, St Nicholas College are the sponsors.
Speaking at the flagging off ceremony, which took place at Booben’s Club, Ogudu, the Nollywood star said the main reason why he decided to support the tournament was to help young football stars discover their talents, and thereby reduce crime.
“The only way I can affect young people is by coming close to them this way. This is to see how we can support young people and see how we can augment the little talents they have to see how they can achieve greater heights.
“When I go out everyday, I see young people with great talents in football, and they only need someone to help them acheive maximum greatness. That is the whole idea.
“Basically, the motive is to see how I can positively touch the lives of young people and help them facilitate their journey to success,” Ike explained.
He explained that the first runner up will get N100, 000, while the second winner up will get N75, 000.
Ike also revealed that Tottenham andTogostriker, Emmanuel Adebayor had given his word to assist some stars to be identified at the football tournament, adding that some major clubs inEuropeare also sending scouts to the tournament.
The sixteen teams participating in the tournament are Sparrow FC, Ogudu; Omega FC, Ojota; Boston FC, Ogudu; Kosofe United, Kosofe; Golden Stars, Ogudu; Mowe Bombers, Mowe; Hob FC, Obanikoro; Intelligent Stars, Alapere; CCC FC, Ogudu and Gazar FC, Ikorodu.
Others are Erotic FC, Ogudu; All Stars FC, Ibafo; Ultimate FC, Ogudu; Lakeside FC, Ifako; All Stars, Oworonsoki and Mowe United, Mowe.
