It wouldn’t be Nicki if there wasn’t some boundary-pushing, and the singer finds that in the biblical tone of the video. From a cross to a Noah-esque ark, Minaj is depicted as a God-like figure.
According to Huffington post, Minaj joins a long line of rappers who have compared themselves to Jesus (Kanye: “The media crucify [sic] me like they did Christ / The want to find me not breathing like they found Mike”). Nicki’s version: “They’ll never thank me for opening doors / But they ain’t even thank Jesus when he died on the cross.”
The music video switches from black-and-white to color halfway through, but in a decidedly un-Nicki move, the colors stay muted, and often completely fade away.
The five-minute video is a breath of fresh air from the artist who has been recycling much of her own material as of late, rereleasing her album “Pink Friday.” The rerelease, titled “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded – The Re-Up” debuted Monday.
